Tidy Tile Final

Heres my game! http://www.kongregate.com/games/Bungalo42/redballs

 Level 1:
Get enough momentum and height to ensure a decent air time above the net, then make the shot.

 Level 2:
Take it slow and steady, rushing makes it much harder to land correctly on the blocks

 Level 3:
Gather the boxes in the fields, then try and gain enough height to gather the boxes on the mountaintops. I couldn't beat it, so you are welcome to try.

Instructions: Use the arrow keys to navigate the red bouncy ball and complete all the levels.
Description: You are Ballulus the red ball, and the game is... RedBalls! Your task is to traverse the hazards of an alien planet and, on the third level, gather up previous energy cubes to get back to your planet.

Tidy Tile Mapper Update 3

So I've created level two, which is more challenging than I expected. I had to change the gravity for this one via coding because my last level was so large. Made a quad and textured it to look like a backboard, then created a simple torus for the hoop in Maya and imported it into unity. The player has to get it in the hoop, where an invisible disk triggers the next level. Here's what it looks like:

Note to self: I cant make a screenshot right now, my keyboard isn't set up.

Level 3 will be...

Tidy Tile Project Update 2

So its been a while since I last updated. Ive scrapped the initial design of my 3 levels completely. My new level one will be using the tidy tile mapper, a bouncy ball, and a basketball hoop. The player will start up on a ledge and have to make his/her way towards the hoop across the plane of scattered blocks, making sure to maintain enough momentum for the height and distance to the hoop. Once they make it into the hoop, they will proceed to the next level.

Level two is already finished! I started to mess around with the terrain function in Unity, and decided to make it my level 2. I slapped some textures on it with painterly textures, and scattered collectible spinning blocks from the roll-a-ball tutorial on top of mountains and hard to get places.

The game is surprisingly hard, as the gravity and bounciness is ramped up. Once the player collects all the blocks, they will proceed to level 3, which I have yet to design.

Tidy Tile Mapper Update 1

Hell has frozen over, and a new ice age has wiped humanity off the planet. The year is 4045, and an alien species call Ballulans have dropped onto the earth's surface. You, a mighty Ballulan scout, are tasked with exploring an unknown frozen city. Your name is Quarkloops, and the game is called Ballulan 5: Revenge of the Ballulans.
The first level will take place in a frozen tundra with the city in the background. there will be easy rolling hills and a vast beautiful vista with the city like so:
Level 2 takes place within the city. The blocks will metal with ice on top, and the surface will be slippery, making it a bit harder. This might be similar to the background:
Level three will still be in the city, but in between buildings with more challenging and precarious footing. Once you reach the end of the level, a sign will show the name of the city, a shocking discovery indeed. New New Old New Old Old New York City. Or maybe Kansas City. It'll be shocking.

Final 2D RPG Project

So here are the final monster areas. From top to bottom is the progression. Butterfly area go to mega blob to mega gelatin man to god's ass, the final boss. The first butterfly area is simply a large amount of butterflies and the exit across the way behind some trees. The idea is that the player must recognize the optimal strategy for each enemy. in the case of the butterflies, its facing them head on, and this area has a convenient tunnel. The next area is the mega blob, who has tons of health and, when killed, spawns a blanket of blobs that is unbeatable as it covers the entire area. The way to win is wait until the mega blob moves up slightly and slip by his hit box along the lower wall. So the key for blobs is to simply ignore them. The next area has a very fast mega gelatin man who needs to be killed for the rock door to open up. Trees are placed so that the mega gelatin man can move between them so as to not make it too easy, which encourages kiting of the gelatin man because of their lack of angular drag mixed with speed makes them overshoot the player constantly. And finally we had god's ass, which does not move, has a lot of health, and craps out all 3 creatures every time you hit it. Once killed, some you win text appears.
So the game's plot is simple, you are Satan's son in a small town in hell when cuddly creatures flood the surrounding areas. The towns people give subtle hints that there must be a source of the creatures, and that its probably a giant butt. I laughed hardily writing that. Progress through the areas and use one of the three weapons: the psychic sword, the lighting that deals aftershock damage, and the fireball that travels through anything. I made a rock door right next to the player's house that leads to the final boss for the convenience of the professor.

2D RPG Kit Project Update

I did quite a bit with the town, changing the guards into demon guards, the trees are dieing, the grass is dieing, the building colors are changed to make it more visible, and I added an enemy zoo where the garden used to be, kinda like the original pokemon.
Added a bit of density to the first monster area, changed some monster speeds/drag. Make a big tree to give the purple guys some backstory. They are gelatinous tree folks who like to live under big trees.
I plan on making the final boss god's butt coming up from the ground, and crapping out the cuddly creatures. He will crap out random of the 3 creatures at a decent speed, so the player has to circumvent the creatures or kill them to attack the giant god butt. This will be in the final section of the second monster area, after the giant blob and field of butterflies.

Assignment 4

Here's my finished RollaBall game. I made a smiley face.
I updated the town to have a western entrance to a new monster area.
Here's the new monster area, I added a new terrain that looks like marble tile. (looks better when up close)

So I hadn't thought of where my game was going since the first game pitch, where I thought to create a pokemon or final fantasy clone and found I probably could not. So, now I'm making my goal to create a game where the player is Dameon, the son of Satan, protecting hell from a cuddly onslaught. As Dameon, you have to cleanse the lands of anything nice, earn enough souls to purchase more powerful weaponry such as the lightning bolts or fireball. The ultimate weapon will be a scythe with very large range and damage.
The enemies include an uncertain blue blob, pretty butterflies, purple gelatin men, and the mysterious final boss, who brought these wretched creatures to hell. I've yet to decide the final boss and his mechanics, but I will be making three large mini bosses of each creature, which the player will have to destroy to continue. The first will be blob boss who will explode on death, and launch a hundred mini blobs out. The second will be the butterfly, who will be extra fast. Then there will be an entire field of purple gelatin men, who will have low drag and can wake each other.
Upon defeating the final boss, the world will be back to normal, and a win screen will come up. I've got to create a more hell-like town with some fire and pits. I plan on changing the buildings to have big spikes with some skulls and blood, all metal and awesome. The town guards will be demons, and the townspeople will resemble famous people like hitler and mother teresa. That's all for now

Assignment 3

I placed the new building along the empty road that leads out to the monster area.
I took the inn interior and added some beds/cabinets, an innkeeper's desk to try and trap the lady npc, a large shield and swords behind her, and a treasure chest under the bottom bed.
I decided to start the workings of the story behind the game. The player is Dameon, son of Satan, who lives in this little town filled with Satanic worshipers. The townspeople want you to slaughter all the cuddly creatures in the monster areas. So the npc boy tells Dameon to kill some creatures.
And here's my successful run at the RollaBall tutorials 1-4. Its satisfying to create something even so simple as that.

2D RPG Starter Kit Assignment 2

Here is my player and the monster I changed. I decided to create a character who looked cultish wizard mystery man like. Hes got a black robe with silver stripes, walks with small movement at the feet of the robe, has purple eyes and joined hands when not attacking.
This is firing a fire blast with the "wand", which I made to look a bit of energy residue.
Here he is with his big purple sword.
Its hard to see but the I made the bow into another energy blast residue, slightly animated with two changing frames.
Here is the "sprite sheet" in unity.
I changed the buildings to feel more organic with some clay colors.

2D RPG Starter Kit Pitch

My first pitch is making a game classic RPG style similar to Final Fantasy III. The characters are low resolution and pixellated, so creating my own characters in this style would be easily achievable. I hope that creating turn based combat can be done with the kit, I assume as much. The world will be medieval themed with magic but little technology in mostly rural setting. I'm not sure about the story, but it will involve multiple characters.
The second pitch is a pokemon clone with my own monsters. Again, easy pixellated characters and exploring a rural setting with lots of RPG elements. I'll call it bag creatures.
